A heart-wrenching incident unfolded at Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, on Saturday evening. A 44-year-old woman battling blood cancer took her own life. A resident of Karnal, Haryana, admitted herself to the hospital on July 4 for anemia treatment while simultaneously undergoing chemotherapy at PGIMER, Chandigarh, for chronic myeloid leukemia.
Patient’s Desperate Act
Despite receiving medical attention, including a blood transfusion on the day of the incident. The woman tragically found herself in a state of despair. Around 4 pm, she entered the washroom and ended her life by hanging herself with her dupatta. Hospital staff immediately responded to the situation and began resuscitation efforts, but unfortunately, they could not save her.
Investigation Underway
The Chandigarh Police were promptly notified of the tragic event and have initiated an inquest into the matter. While the exact reasons behind the woman’s extreme step remain unclear. It is evident that the physical and emotional toll of battling cancer had a profound impact on her life. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by cancer patients and the importance of providing comprehensive support, both medical and psychological, to those affected by this devastating disease.
